What Can I Customize on My eCards?

Customize Your eCard Design, Branding, Envelope, Background, Messages, Music, Video, and More

Written by Tim Badolato

eCardWidget lets you customize more than the card image. From the envelope recipients open to the personal message they read, you can tailor the experience to your brand, occasion, or campaign.

Customize the eCard Design

Upload your own artwork or use the eCard designer to create your card. Customize:

  • Images and artwork: Upload photos, illustrations, or animated GIFs.

  • Card background: Change the background within your card design to complement your artwork.

  • Text: Add greetings, event details, thank-you messages, or other wording.

  • Fonts and effects: Customize font styles, sizes, and colors. Add effects such as glow, shadow, or outline to make your text stand out.

For more on creating your first card, see How do I add eCards to my website?.

Brand Your eCards

Open the Branding tab to make your eCards recognizable and consistent with your organization’s identity.

Select and Reuse a Brand

Choose a brand from the Selected Brand dropdown. Use the pencil icon to edit a brand or the plus icon to create one. Use Apply to all to apply the selected brand across your eCards.

Upload Your Logo

Upload your organization’s logo in the Logo section. Add a Logo Link to connect it to your website or another relevant page.

You can also upload a Background Logo. This appears in a corner of the eCard page’s backdrop, without covering the card, and scales down on mobile.

Customize Background Colors

Adjust the background colors for different parts of the experience:

  • Body Background: Set the main page background color.

  • Logo Background: Customize the background behind the logo.

  • Receipt Background: Set the receipt background color.

Choose colors that complement your card design and keep your branding consistent.

Adjust Font Colors and Sizing

In the Fonts section, customize the text color, link color, and body font size. Choose settings that match your brand while keeping the content easy to read.

Add Social Media Links

Add links to your organization’s Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook profiles. Their icons appear in the footer of your eCard, giving recipients a convenient way to connect with your organization.

For more details, see our Comprehensive Branding Guide.

Customize the Envelope

Give recipients a personalized first impression before they open the eCard. Envelope customization options include:

  • Colors: Adjust the envelope’s colors to suit your brand or theme.

  • Patterns: Customize envelope patterns for a seasonal, branded, or decorative look.

  • Appearance: Coordinate the envelope’s exterior and interior styling with the card.

  • Envelope label: Edit the text on the front of the envelope and customize its font color and text size.

  • Stamps: Customize the stamp to complete the presentation.

For advanced designs, custom CSS can replace the envelope body and flap images with your own artwork. See Advanced eCard Envelope Styling.

Customize the Background Surrounding the eCard

Along with the background inside your card design, you can customize the backdrop surrounding the eCard.

Use a color or image that complements your card and envelope—for example, a brand color, festive artwork, or a subtle background that keeps attention on the greeting.

Choose Where the Personal Message Appears

Control how recipients see the sender’s personal message. Choose from three placements:

  • Below the eCard: Display the message beneath the card artwork.

  • On the back of the eCard: Place the message on the reverse of the card.

  • On a separate card: Give the personal message its own card within the experience.

Choose the placement that best suits your artwork and the amount of text you expect senders to include.

Choose an Animated or Simple Experience

Use Animated eCard mode for an interactive presentation with an envelope-opening experience and embedded music or video.

Use Simple eCard mode for a greeting viewed primarily in an email inbox. In this mode, you can link to music or video hosted elsewhere.

You can also use an animated GIF as your card artwork to add movement to the design.

Add Music or Audio

Add music or audio to complement the greeting, such as a seasonal soundtrack or a recorded message.

In Animated eCard mode, open your eCard in the editor, select More Customizations, and configure the audio.

In Simple eCard mode, use a link to externally hosted audio. Most email clients do not support direct audio playback within an email.

Add Video

Include video to share a personal greeting, team message, event invitation, or campaign story.

Animated eCard mode supports embedded video through More Customizations in the eCard editor.

For Simple eCard mode, link the card’s cover image to your video page. A play icon on the artwork helps recipients recognize that they can click to watch.

Add Confetti

Add confetti to bring a celebratory touch to the eCard experience. Use it for birthdays, work anniversaries, milestones, and recognition cards.

Coordinate the effect with your design so the greeting and personal message remain easy to read.

Customize Labels, Instructions, and Other Text

Use Custom Text/Translation to change default labels, instructions, and other customer-facing text to match your organization’s voice or language.

Add Personalized Text and Photos

Custom Fields let senders provide text or upload images that appear in the eCard design. For example, you can create a space for a recipient’s name or a sender-uploaded photo.

Custom Fields are available on Premium and Enterprise plans.

Preview and Test Your eCard

Before sharing your eCard:

  1. Save your changes and open the preview.

  2. Review the card design, branding, envelope, stamp, and background together.

  3. Enter a sample personal message to check its placement and readability.

  4. Test music, video, and confetti.

  5. Check your logo and social media links.

  6. Send a test eCard and review it on desktop and mobile.
